“Coincidence is God’s way of remaining anonymous.”
— Albert Einstein

Have you ever thought about someone you hadn’t spoken to in years—and suddenly they called you?
Have you ever randomly opened a book and found the exact sentence you needed that day?
Or have you ever gone somewhere completely unplanned, only to discover that you were supposed to meet someone there?
We usually call these things coincidences.
But sometimes, a coincidence feels so perfectly timed that the word coincidence almost seems too small.
And perhaps the strangest thing about coincidences is this:
They make us question whether life is really random.
🌙 The Strange Beauty of Coincidence
Life rarely moves in straight lines.
We make plans.
We choose destinations.
We decide whom to meet, what to study, where to go and what to do next.
And yet, some of the most memorable moments of our lives happen because of something we never planned.
A delayed train.
A missed phone call.
A wrong turn.
A forgotten appointment.
A random conversation.
A sudden change of plan.
And sometimes, one tiny deviation from our original plan changes the entire story.
That’s what makes coincidence fascinating.
The butterfly effect of ordinary life.
Imagine missing a bus by just two minutes.
You might think:
“Oh no, I’m late.”
But perhaps that missed bus prevents you from being somewhere at exactly the wrong time.
Or perhaps the next bus introduces you to someone who eventually becomes important in your life.
You may never know.
✨ My Weirdest Coincidence
One of the strangest kinds of coincidences isn’t necessarily something dramatic.
It’s the kind that happens quietly.
You suddenly remember a person you haven’t thought about for months.
You wonder:
“I wonder how they are doing?”
And then—within hours—you receive a message from them.
No planning.
No conversation beforehand.
Nothing that logically explains the timing.
Just…
You thought of them.
And they appeared.
Maybe it is nothing.
Maybe our brains simply notice patterns.
But emotionally?
It feels almost magical.
And that’s where coincidence becomes interesting.
🧠 Coincidence or Pattern?
Psychologists often point out that human beings are natural pattern-seekers.
Our brain constantly connects events and searches for meaning.
If we think about someone and they call us, we remember it.
But we don’t remember all the hundreds of times we thought about someone and they didn’t call.
So perhaps coincidence sometimes feels extraordinary because our minds are excellent storytellers.
But here’s the beautiful part:
Knowing the psychology doesn’t necessarily destroy the magic.
Because even if coincidence has a logical explanation, the experience can still be meaningful.
📖 A Famous Example: Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy
One of the most famous examples of alleged historical coincidence is the list of similarities often shared between Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy.
Both were American presidents who became victims of assassination.
Both had successors named Johnson.
Both had notable similarities in the timing and circumstances surrounding their deaths.
The internet has popularized many additional similarities—but several of the viral versions are exaggerated or inaccurate.
And that’s an important lesson:
Coincidence becomes more fascinating when we separate the real from the embellished.
Not every strange pattern is evidence of destiny.
Sometimes…
a coincidence is simply a coincidence.
☕ The “Small” Coincidences Are Often the Biggest Ones
Imagine this:
You’re having an awful day.
You don’t tell anyone.
You’re sitting quietly somewhere, feeling completely exhausted.
Then a stranger smiles at you.
Or someone says:
“Everything will be okay.”
Maybe they don’t know what you’re going through.
Maybe they say it casually.
But somehow, those words arrive at exactly the right moment.
Was that coincidence?
Probably.
But does it matter?
Maybe not.
Because sometimes the meaning of an event isn’t determined by why it happened.
It’s determined by what it meant to you.
🌌 The Universe Has a Strange Sense of Timing
There is something beautiful about timing.
You can meet the right person at the wrong time.
You can find the right opportunity when you’re not ready.
You can discover an important book years before you’re able to understand it.
And then one day…
You encounter the same idea again.
Suddenly, it makes sense.
Was the first encounter meaningless?
Perhaps it was simply preparing you.
Carl Jung famously introduced the idea of synchronicity—meaningful coincidences that seem connected even without an obvious causal relationship.
And perhaps that’s why some coincidences stay with us.
They don’t necessarily prove that destiny exists.
But they make us feel connected to something larger than ourselves.
🕰️ Five Weird Coincidences We All Experience
1. Thinking about someone just before they contact you
The classic one.
You haven’t spoken in months.
Suddenly…
“Hey! Long time!”
And you’re sitting there thinking:
“Okay… that’s creepy.” 😂
2. Meeting someone in an unexpected place
You never expected to see them.
You weren’t even supposed to be there.
And suddenly, there they are.
Sometimes one random change in your schedule creates an unforgettable meeting.
3. Hearing the same song repeatedly
You hear a song randomly.
Then it appears on Instagram.
Then someone plays it in a café.
Then it comes on your playlist.
Suddenly you’re wondering:
“Why is this song following me?”
Probably algorithms.
But it still feels strangely personal.
4. Finding exactly what you needed
You’re struggling with a question.
You randomly open a book.
And the first paragraph seems to answer it.
This is one of my favourite kinds of coincidence.
Because sometimes…
books seem to arrive in our lives at exactly the right time.
5. A missed opportunity that becomes a blessing
This one is perhaps the most powerful.
You didn’t get the job.
You missed the train.
The relationship ended.
The plan failed.
At the time, it felt like life was punishing you.
Months later, you realise:
That disappointment redirected your entire life.
And suddenly the question changes from:
“Why did this happen to me?”
to:
“What was this making possible?”
🌱 Maybe Coincidences Don’t Change Our Lives—We Do
Here’s something I’ve slowly started believing:
Maybe coincidences aren’t messages from the universe.
Maybe they are mirrors.
They show us what we were already thinking about.
They reveal what matters to us.
They make us pause.
They make ordinary moments memorable.
And sometimes, they remind us that life is much less predictable than we imagine.
❤️ The Coincidence I Would Never Call “Just a Coincidence”
There are moments in life that arrive so perfectly that you don’t want to explain them.
You don’t want statistics.
You don’t want probability.
You don’t want neuroscience.
You simply want to sit quietly and think:
“Wow.”
Maybe that’s enough.
Because life doesn’t always have to be explained to be appreciated.
Some moments can simply be experienced.
Some meetings can remain mysterious.
Some timings can remain unbelievable.
And some coincidences can become stories we tell for the rest of our lives.
🌠 Coincidence Is Life Whispering “Look Closer”
Perhaps the real magic isn’t that two unlikely things happen together.
Perhaps the magic is that we notice.
Millions of things happen around us every day.
But occasionally, two moments collide in such a beautiful way that we stop.
We notice.
We remember.
We wonder.
And for a brief second, the ordinary world feels extraordinary.
That’s what coincidence does.
It makes us curious about life.
It reminds us that certainty is an illusion.
And perhaps most importantly…
It leaves a little room for wonder.
🪶 A Thought to Leave You With
“Sometimes the most beautiful chapters of our lives begin with a coincidence we almost ignored.”
So the next time you randomly meet someone…
the next time you think of a person just before they call…
the next time you take a wrong road and discover something beautiful…
don’t immediately ask:
“What are the chances?”
Maybe ask:
“What can I learn from this moment?”
Because whether coincidences are created by probability, psychology, destiny, or something we don’t yet understand…
they make life more interesting.
And perhaps that’s their greatest gift.
🌙 Your Turn
What’s the weirdest coincidence you’ve ever experienced?
Did you think about someone just before they contacted you?
Did a random decision change your life?
Did you meet someone completely unexpectedly?
Or did something happen at exactly the right time?
Tell me your coincidence in the comments.
Because sometimes…
your strangest story might become someone else’s favourite story. ❤️
