Before choosing our destination, let’s establish some important rules.

A reasonable chance of coming back alive.

That last point eliminates several fictional universes immediately.

Beautiful castles.

Terrible vacation planning.

Middle-earth?

Amazing landscapes.

But please don’t volunteer for the Fellowship.

Wonderland?

Wonderful.

Until someone starts shouting, “Off with their head!”

Pandora?

Spectacular.

But the wildlife has considerably more confidence than you do.

So perhaps the perfect fictional vacation lies somewhere between magic and safety.

And that’s where our imagination begins.

🏰✨ 1. THE CASTLE OF A THOUSAND SPELLS

Our journey begins in a castle.

At first glance, it looks like Hogwarts.

Tall towers.

Ancient stone walls.

Moving staircases.

Enchanted corridors.

But look closer.

Carved elephants guard the entrance.

Lotus motifs decorate the ceilings.

Brass diyas illuminate the corridors.

The Great Hall has enormous Indian chandeliers.

Instead of only magical portraits, the walls display paintings of ancient kings, sages, warriors and mythical creatures.

And every evening, the castle changes colour according to the sunset.

The first night, you walk through the corridor.

A portrait suddenly speaks:

“Lost?”

You answer:

“Very.”

The portrait smiles.

“Good. The interesting places are usually found by people who are lost.”

You continue walking.

Because in a magical castle, apparently even the paintings give better life advice than Google Maps.

Every fantasy world needs a magical shopping street.

Our version is called:

The Bazaar of Seven Moons.

Imagine Diagon Alley mixed with an ancient Indian bazaar.

One shop sells magical robes.

Another sells flying carpets.

Another sells enchanted jewellery.

A tiny stall sells herbs collected from forests that don’t exist on ordinary maps.

And somewhere between the wand shop and the spice market is an old woman selling…

Future-Telling Masala Chai.

You take one sip.

She looks at you.

Then she says:

“Tomorrow, you will meet a dragon.”

You laugh.

“Seriously?”

She shrugs.

“You asked for masala chai, not boring chai.”

You leave.

The next morning…

you meet the dragon.

At this point, you stop questioning anything.

Western fantasy gave us dragons.

Indian mythology gave us nāgas.

So why should we choose?

In our fictional universe, we don’t.

Dragons rule the skies. Nāgas protect the rivers.

Dragons breathe fire.

Nāgas command water.

Dragons live in mountain caves.

Nāgas guard ancient underground kingdoms.

Once every hundred years, they meet at the legendary Lake of Seven Suns.

Nobody knows what they discuss.

But every time they meet, something magical happens.

A new river appears.

A forgotten forest blooms.

An ancient temple reawakens.

And occasionally…

a dragon accidentally burns someone’s dinner.

Even magical creatures have bad days.

Now we enter one of the most fascinating parts of this world.

The Forest of a Thousand Conversations.

It is inspired by India’s Panchatantra tradition.

Here, animals can talk.

But they don’t simply tell jokes.

A fox understands politics.

An elephant remembers history.

A crow knows everyone’s secrets.

A monkey believes he is the smartest creature alive.

And the tortoise?

The tortoise is the philosopher.

You sit under a banyan tree.

A tiger approaches.

You become nervous.

The tiger looks at you and asks:

“Why are you afraid?”

“Because you’re a tiger.”

He pauses.

“And you’re a human. Should I be afraid of you?”

Silence.

The tiger walks away.

You sit there for five minutes thinking:

The sage smiles.

“When you learn to control the mind that is holding the magic.”

Suddenly, fantasy becomes philosophy.

And perhaps that’s where Indian wisdom fits beautifully into Western fantasy.

Imagine Varanasi…

but floating above the Ganges.

Golden temples rise into the clouds.

The river glows at night.

Because according to legend:

the river tells one story every evening.

Only people who are completely silent can hear it.

You open your eyes.

The river is silent again.

Every fantasy vacation deserves one completely ridiculous place.

Fireflies float like stars.

The waterfalls glow at night.

And the unicorns leave silver footprints wherever they walk.

There is only one rule:

Nobody is allowed to shout.

Because the valley disappears whenever humans stop feeling wonder.

Perhaps that’s the problem with growing up.

We don’t lose magic.

We lose the ability to notice it.

Now comes the greatest invention in this fictional universe.

Forget airplanes.

Forget ordinary trains.

Meet:

THE AKASH EXPRESS

A magical train that travels between worlds.

It looks like the Hogwarts Express from a distance.

But inside?

Indian wooden carvings.

Brass lamps.

Comfortable seats.

And a pantry serving:

chai + samosas + Butterbeer.

The train travels through:

🌲 enchanted forests
🏜️ magical deserts
🏰 European kingdoms
🌊 underwater tunnels
🌌 and sometimes… space

At midnight, the conductor walks through the carriage.

He asks:

“Destination?”

You smile.

“Somewhere magical.”

He stamps your ticket.

“Then you’re already there.”

🍛✨ 9. THE GREAT FANTASY FEAST

Let’s be honest.

No vacation is complete without food.

And our magical universe takes food very seriously.

Imagine sitting in an enormous dining hall with floating candles.

The architecture looks European.

The decorations are Indian.

And the food?

Absolutely dangerous.

Paneer tikka.

Biryani.

Dosa.

Samosa.

Rasgulla.

Gulab jamun.

Butterbeer.

Pumpkin pasties.

Masala chai.

And desserts that appear whenever you think about them.

A wizard takes one bite of spicy Indian food.

His eyes widen.

He whispers:

“What spell is this?”

The chef replies:

“Not a spell. Garam masala.”

And suddenly the wizard understands that some forms of magic are better without a wand.

But you cannot take one home.

Because some stories belong to the place where they were born.
